Addressing extreme temperatures in prisons requires collaboration across advocacy, research, and public education. TPCA is proud to partner with the University of Colorado Boulder's Resilient Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RISE) initiative, an interdisciplinary program advancing research at the intersection of climate resilience, infrastructure, and social justice.

Led by Dr. Shawhin Roudbari, Benjamin Barron (PhD Candidate), and their student research team, the partnership produced an interactive exhibit exploring how climate change disproportionately impacts people incarcerated in U.S. prisons. The exhibit combines research, design, and firsthand accounts to illustrate the urgent need for humane temperature standards.

 

As part of the exhibit, visitors can listen to a powerful audio recording featuring the voices of incarcerated Americans describing their lived experiences of extreme heat inside prison facilities—bringing human stories to the forefront of the conversation around climate justice and prison reform.
